We are looking to recruit Full Time Legal Secretary to be based at our Head Office, Broughton House, 48 West Street, Sheffield. The post will commence in April 2020

The desired applicant will be a hardworking, enthusiastic, team player possessing great interpersonal skills, a good degree of patience and understanding and the ability to work well under pressure. The applicant will be expected to work in an organised and methodical manner with a positive attitude.

The main responsibilities of the Legal Secretary will be to work closely with the Fee Earners in the Criminal Department at the Head Office and Barnsley Branch.

Main Responsibilities:-

  • taking calls, dealing with new and existing clients and general enquiries
  • diary management
  • dealing with all dictation and typing as required
  • dealing with all incoming post
  • checking Magistrates Court Cells every morning.
  • arranging cover for the Police Station when clients are arrested.

Dictation and admin Criminal Daily As and when required
Filing Criminal Daily – PM Every afternoon
Post Criminal Daily – AM Organising post for fee earners
Answering the Out of Hours Police Station Mobile Phone Criminal As and when required during working hours (9am-5pm)
Answering incoming calls from reception Criminal & mental health Daily Arrange clients appointments, and general enquiries
Arranging prison visits Criminal Daily As and when required
Opening files and general admin for crime/mental health Mental Health Daily As and when required
Diary management for 4 fee earners Criminal & Mental Health Daily As and when required for Sheffield and Barnsley
Prioritising workloads Daily Ensure work is completed in line with priorities
Help in other depts All Daily If criminal/MH work is complete to help and assist in other depts as and when required.


The normal working hours of the firm are Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. We do offer flexible working hours.

Holiday entitlement is 22 days holiday plus all statutory bank holidays. Tuesdays at  Easter, May Bank Holiday and August Bank Holiday  plus one week at Christmas.

Work Pension is included once the applicant meets the government guidelines. Best contribute to the Employees pension

Salary negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
