Important changes today to the Child Maintenance Service

If parents cannot reach an agreement about child maintenance and approach the Child Maintenance Service (a new system to replace the Child Support Agency) to deal with the matter, the Child Maintenance Service will add a 20% fee onto the paying parents maintenance payment.

The government has announced today that the receiving parent will now have to pay a 4% fee to receive the maintenance payment.

The emphasis is therefore upon parents reaching their own agreement on child support payments, to prevent both being penalised financially.
