How can we help?
The Mental Health Law Department is led by Vanessa Saxton. Vanessa has been conducting representation on behalf of clients for over 20 years and provides representation if you are detained under the Mental Health Act and also for the relatives seeking to challenge the detention of their loved one. We can provide representation at an appeal before the Mental Health Tribunal (first tier) and Upper Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearings.
Vanessa is also able to conduct litigation on behalf of the Official Solicitor. She is the only solicitor with offices based in the Sheffield area providing this type of legal help and advice.
If you're not sure if we can cover your case, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us and we can discuss your specific needs.
What can I expect to happen?
Vanessa provides a competent and sympathetic service to clients who are often disadvantaged by their mental health difficulties. If you are detained a visit by a specialist solicitor will be arranged at the hospital and we will advise on the procedure and the law.
How much will it cost me?
Public funding is available without any contribution by you for cases before the Mental Health Tribunal. Other types of cases may also be fully funded and we can advise on these when we know the details of your case.
