Divorce / Civil Partnership Dissolution

No two marriage breakdowns are the same – each is the result of unique circumstances. At Best Solicitors, our duty is to help you deal with matters quickly and amicably. If you have decided that your marriage is over and there is no chance of reconciliation, we can help you.

We will be with you throughout the divorce process, sensitive to your need for a swift and painless resolution.

Often, divorce proceedings will require you to:

  • Decide on long-term childcare arrangements
  • Make financial settlements
  • Distribute assets

Did you know?

In most cases, the cost of a divorce is fixed. At Best Solicitors, our fixed fee is £750 (+ VAT). An initial appointment with one of our team is £199 (inc. VAT), and the court will require a further £593 to cover their costs, although if you are on a low income, you might not have to pay the court fee.

A common misconception is that a divorce will cost thousands of pounds, but in fact, surprisingly high costs usually arise only when both parties have not agreed financial arrangements within a divorce. This can be achieved by entering into a consent order.

5 facts to consider:

  1. A divorce does not end financial claims – you need a Consent Order to ensure there is a clean break.
  2. You cannot start divorce proceedings unless you have been married for longer than 12 months.
  3. You do not have to be living in separate properties for divorce proceedings to take place.
  4. There is no such things as a ”quickie divorce”. From start to finish, the process is the same and can take at least 6 months, regardless of the reason you are seeking a divorce.
  5. You should look at putting a Will in place as soon as you start divorce proceedings. If something happens to you before your divorce is finalised and no Will is in place, your assets will pass to your spouse.
