Each week we are taking questions from our clients and contacts. This week Mrs Shepherdson of Barnsley asks:
“I own a large business in Barnsley. When the Furlough scheme ends I’m not sure I can keep all my staff. What are my options?”
Our employment solicitor Nikki Sharpe answers.
“Most businesses are finding these times very hard and we understand the uncertainty and that you have to consider all your options. The Furlough Scheme comes to an end on 31 October 2020 meaning that strictly speaking; every employer must have their staff working on 1 November 2020 under the same terms as pre-furlough, unless you look to vary the terms of the contracts.
If you are certain that there is no scope for your entire workforce to return to work, then you can consider the redundancy process. We can offer bespoke advice to businesses, small or large, on how to deal with the redundancy process. Click here to see what packages we have available.
You may also want to consider whether you can bring staff back who are currently furloughed on a part time basis to gradually reintroduce staff to the work place.”
